Support / Object: OBJECT
Document Link: Preferred Options Local Plan - Sustainable Settlements, Mersea Island, SS17a: Mersea Housing and Employment
Representation: Objection on grounds of inadequate facilities - roads, car parking, doctors, school, sewerage Inability to evacuate increased numbers from the island in an emergency. Plan based upon incorrect number of households; actual number of dwellings already exceeds the number proposed and thus any expansion has already been absorbed. Inadequate policing; additional dwellings and social housing will exacerbate this. No account taken of traffic from caravan parks, tourist visitors or nearby villages when assessing the capacity for West Mersea to support this proposal. Congestion on East Road and Dawes Lane with minimal alternative exit routes.

Original submission

Objection on grounds of inadequate facilities - roads (condition and capacity; strood in particular), village centre car parking, doctors, school, sewerage (leading to poorer quality bathing water and impact on oyster farming). Inability to evacuate increased numbers from the island in event of an emergency. Plan seems based upon incorrect number of households when the actual number of dwellings already exceeds the number proposed and thus any expansion has already been absorbed. Inadequate policing for the existing population; the proposed number of additional dwellings and social housing will exacerbate this. No account taken of traffic from caravan parks, tourist visitors or nearby villages when assessing the capacity for West Mersea to support this volume of additional dwellings. Significant congestion to be expected around East Road and Dawes Lane with minimal alternative exit routes.
