The figures in your plan are incorrect regarding number of homes and capacity to take more? They do not take into account summer influx and the re entry permitted 12 month licences for caravan parks. The proposed plan has not taken into account healthcare, employment, or services to other areas to get employment, and schools or facilities for young or old. The added population during summer months demands more power and capability for dealing with sewage. There is also no police presence here. Emergency services will struggle at high tides and the doctors are oversubscribed with no emergency clinic here. The island is very congested in summer with inadequate parking.
This Island is a nugget of low crime, good community spirit, and brings revenue to area in the summer which In turn benefits Colchester. If you build these houses, people who need work will be reluctant to buy them if they have to travel to Colchester for work because of the cost of local transport.
There is also a threat of new nuclear power plant and evacuation plan needed.
So this plan needs to see what can Mersea sustain and listen to the elected town council otherwise this nugget will become just another badly thought out urban development and Colchester will lose its diversity and possibly some of its revenue from visitors.
