An extra 1000 people on the island would danger the existing infrastructure that exists at the moment, namely, there are inadequate medical facilities on the island, it is obvious the Doctors surgery cannot cope with the population as it is now, speak to anyone that is registered there this will be made far worse with upto 1000 more people having to register, appointments would be months away rather than weeks away as the situation is now. The school on the island is overcrowded now god knows what will happen with the increase in the population that is being threatened.
The roads on the island are in poor repair and this would be made worse with the increase of more vehicles using them..
Should there be a disaster at Bradwell and the island had to be evacuated there would be serious problems with the only exit point being the Strood. I was always under the impression that Mersea Island was restricted as to how many residents there were because of its close proximity to the nuclear power station .I believe there are plans for the futured to make Bradwell active again and somewhat larger.Bradwell
