Representation: Keep Mersea a small coastal town, we don't want or need these extra houses, the infrastructure won't be able to cope and the island will lose its coastal charm

West Mersea is currently a superb little island where many enjoy the facilities we already have. To build an extra 350 house will undoubtedly put extra strain on this facilities. The island just will not cope with the extra houses, people and traffic these houses will bring. In order for the island to cope we would need a bigger primary school, or a new school. We would need a bigger doctor surgery, the one at present can't cope as it is so where would the extra people go for their health needs ? We would also need our police presence back in force, having to wait ages for the police to arrive is not good, this also applies to the other emergency services. The causeway is another concern, what if there is a major incident and we needed to get off the island quickly ? At present it would be a struggle but with extra population it would not happen !
Your summary of West Mersea begins with : West Mersea is a small coastal town, well we won't be small anymore if these houses go ahead we will become a big coastal town and we lose the charm it has which attracts the numerous visitors we have
