We would like to protest at the ridiculously disproportionate amount of proposed new housing for the village of Langham.
The proposed siting of 2 new estates in School Road of 115 houses would completely destroy the rural character of this lovely village. The area is unsuitable for this amount of houses, the road already suffers from the heavy haulage vehicles of the businesses located at the industrial site and a high volume of school traffic.
With the enormous amount of house building going on in the north of Colchester we see no need for a development of this size in a rural village. If villages like Langham are allowed to be urbanised and destroyed then the uniqueness of the English village will be lost for ever.
Can we also point out that several houses for sale in the village have taken a very long time to sell. Even modestly priced properties that we are led to believe would be 'snapped up' have languished on the market for months. This would appear to indicate that Langham isn't as in demand as may be thought and people who might buy a brand new house in Langham wouldn't be necessarily buying because it's in Langham, but because it's new and buying a brand new house is made easy by the developer.
