Representation: I appreciate that there is a housing shortage, but feel the above proposal is very short sighted and not enough research has taken place.

We have a lot of farml land on the Island, and is this in danger of being developed? It is a very worrying propect

Original submission

The main reason for my objection is the infrastructure of the Island. The GP surgery is not adequate for the current population. The surgery has been contacting patients who do not reside on the Island, to make alternative arrangements for their needs. This, I believe amounts to 90 patients, which will not make the slightest difference to the proposed extra people, which will be roughly 1000. A conservative estimate I believe. Our new surgery is no nearer being built than it was about ten years ago. How are they supposed to serve all the extra residents that these developments will bring to the Island.

The other serous impact will be to the local school. There is no room for extensions to the school, as I believe the current site has been developed fully.

The other concern is the extra traffic that this development will generate to East Road. As well as the extra people that we have during the summer from the caravan sites that use this road. The season for the caravan sites is extending every year, and some of the sites allow usage all year round.

The Island cannot cope with all the extra strain on our resources and the culture of the Island is in danger of disappearing forever.

The original development at Welhouse Green is far bigger than first proposal.
