Representation 32 on Preferred Options Local Plan by Mrs Jackie Smith

Representation: This development would be a disaster for Mersea Island and the so called "planning gain" of extra playing fields at the Glebe is very poor compensation indeed for the adverse effect that the plan would have on the island's existing residents.

Original submission

Another 350 new dwellings would have seriously overstretch the resources, services & amenities of the island and would cause traffic chaos especially during the busy summer months. Mersea GP's have already axed 90 patients from their lists and would not be able to accommodate & treat the new influx of patients. Mersea school would surely struggle to accommodate a large new intake of this nature. With upwards of 1000 new residents in Mersea, how far would the queues at the Strood stretch at high tide? The island could become gridlocked at busy times. Police presence on the island has been cut to the bone - how would the current police level cope with the issues of another 1000 residents?
