Representation: There is already a 300% increase in population in the summer months with the Caravan Parks/camping.

There is only one road off the Island which frequently gets flooded by the tide.

Schools, sewage system and doctors would not cope with growth.

Further growth on Mersea is not viable.

Original submission

I am writing to object to the plan to build 350 new homes on Mersea Island.
There is already a 300% increase in population in the summer months with the Caravan Parks/camping, etc. and as there is only one road off the Island which frequently gets flooded by the tide this would be foolish in the extreme.

The roads and car parking on the island are already full and would not be able to cope with all the extra cars.

How would the Doctors' Surgery and Clinic cope with an extra 1000 people permanently on the Island? They already find it very difficult now! Also the Dentists would find it difficult to cope.

The lnfant Primary School is always full to capacity - it would mean extra classrooms and School Hall to cope with the extra children; who pays for this?

The Sewage Disposal system would be inadequate too.

In view of these considerations any further development on Mersea Island is not viable!
