We have been living on the island for 47 years. We moved here when Paul was tractor driver and combine driver and was employed by David Lord he worked for him for 25 years. But then took on his own gardening business until he retired. We have seen a lot of development over the years and seen Mersea grow from a small community to what it is now.
We are grieved to see good farmland been used for building so we object most strongly to build any more houses on the island. Not that, that is the only issue. Our doctors and dentists can't cope now with the amount of residential, the sewer system is inadequate and has not got enough capacity to take any more houses. The schools are only just coping with the amount of children they have now. In summer the population grows as there are a number of caravan sites on the island. There is only one road off and on the island. If we had to evacuate it would be a disaster. The employment on the island is limited and people have to commute to Colchester or further afield.
We ask that common sense will see that any more development would not be right for Mersea Island.
