Representation: The proposals have not been publicised enough. The infrastructure on the island is under so much pressure that the doctors, schools, sewers, roads and parking are at breaking point. If there are too many people on the island tourists may be put off coming which is bad for businesses. There is no assurance that only 350 homes will be built and not more.

Original submission

Shame on you Colchester Planning Committee of trying to force Mersea Island to accommodate 350 more homes, around another 1000 people.

Shame on you for two reasons. Firstly that you had a meeting in the small hall at MICA centre with almost no publicity, hence you only had a few people show up. When a protest meeting was held on the 1st of September and the WMTC advertised it there was not enough room in the big hall for all the people who attended.

Secondly. The infrastructure on the Island is under so much pressure that the doctors, schools, sewers, roads and parking are at this time already at breaking point.
In the summer time added to these problems are the hundreds of holiday visitors who should also be taken in to account. If they decide that Mersea Island has become to crowded and go elsewhere not only will the Island businesses suffer but your income will be greatly reduced.

I think that you forget that you are there to look after the best interest of the people and not the best interest of yourselves as happened with Wellhouse Green. We were told that a certain number of houses were to be built and once the builders had finished there was around 25% more dwellings than the original number so how can we believe that you will not build 500 homes on the proposed sites.
