Representation: New housing would be detrimental to the island because it would result in increased traffic, more public transport, larger shops, lorries delivering to those shops - all resulting in pollution. Instead Mersea Island should be protected from new development proposals under a 'special status'.

I object to the proposals in the above plan to build up to 350 houses on Mersea Island because I consider any further development would have a detrimental effect on this Island. It must be recognised that this part of Essex is quite unique and every effort should be made for it to remain as it is for the benefit of future generations, both to live here and visit.

The impact of up to an extra 1000 people on this small island would result in increased traffic by people going off the island for work and school, more public transport, larger shops, lorries delivering to those shops - all this resulting in pollution that would have an adverse effect on the environment.

In return for this large development, it would include more playing fields WOW how generous! We have the biggest natural playing field on our doorstep - lovely walks, large beaches and an enormous expanse of sea - that is a real playground.

I ask whether there is a special status that could be given to Mersea Island to protect it from development proposals such as this in the future. I feel this should be investigated.
