I am concerned that the proposed development of 350 new homes will put an unsustainable strain on the island's infrastructure. As a tidal island, with only one route on and off, it is already at capacity. An increase in the population of one seventh would over burden existing services - the doctors, primary school, dentists, and the lack of police presence would also be of concern. There would be a similar proportional increase in the number of cars on the island. Parking is limited - we already observe the existing restrictions being ignored, and areas of West Mersea are already severely congested, particularly in the summer months - this will certainly not improve the situation. Walking around the island today I noted parking restrictions being ignored, dog waste bins overflowing on the beach, general waste bins full, and rubbish strewn around children's play areas. It seems foolhardy to consider putting additional pressure on the island's services when we cannot cope with the current population. I am also disappointed by the lack of detailed information regarding the proposed plans.
