I object to the proposed residential development of the heavily used Britannia Car Park. This car park is of critical value to the adjacent St Botolph's church, which is not only a place of worship but is also of immense value to the wider community of the Colchester area. Because of its acclaimed acoustic properties it is frequently used by local (and not so local) musicians for concerts and recitals. In 2015 there were 45 such events. The future of these concerts would be placed in jeopardy, with consequent loss to Colchester's cultural life, if the potential audience, many of whom are elderly, are unable to park nearby. This problem is particularly acute on dark weekend evenings when the town centre often presents an intimidating environment for the elderly.
