Although the pure statistics imply a 350 housing unit increase equates to 11% increase in the village population of 3500 no accounting for the summer population is included. The island has numerous caravan sites, some offering near 12 month residency. Our infrastructure, schools/medical services and road struggle to cope now. Where the two developments are planned both involve placing extra vehicle movements onto restricted width roads (East Road). Most of the traffic from the two developments will use Dawes Lane to egress the island, which again is narrow for two way traffic. The village itself is under resourced with natural open space and the influx of these homes/families will greatly impact on the congestion within the village centre. The plan should be considered in light of the peak summer population including the residential caravan owner parks.
