The residential allocations indicated in the draft plan in respect of Braiswick are not supported by the Braiswick Residents' Association. As a general principle the Association is of the opinion that Braiswick has been and will be considerably adversely affected by existing development schemes such as Chesterwell which will create greatly increased traffic particularly at North Station and other roads in the local area, significant additional pressure on local facilities and deterioration in the general environment due to pollution, noise and destruction of wildlife habitat. To further add to these detriments, identifying 3 new sites in Braiswick will 'rub salt in the wounds', there being a strong feeling among residents that the Braiswick area and its surrounds has done more than its bit to accommodate the extra housing which Colchester Borough Council has facilitated without any meaningful improvements in infrastructure.
The 3 Braiswick sites are not necessary to meet a demand for housing in the area as the nearby Chesterwell development will easily accommodate any likely requirement in this respect now or in the foreseeable future.
