Representation 18 on Preferred Options Local Plan by Heather Doyle

Representation: Facilities in Rowhedge (such as school) already at capacity,

Rowhedge already has one substantial housing development underway - why are we being targeted again? Character of the village being eroded by further development

Potential to set a precedent with other developers trying to develop sites adjacent / next to the Battleswick Farm development.

We don't want to end up fused to Old Heath - we want rural village life - not mass housing estates. That's why we moved here!

Original submission

I am extremely concerned about the proposal to develop the land on Battleswick Farm. Firstly, I think it sets a worrying precedent - possibly paving the way for other proposals to develop other green field sites adjacent to the farm, gradually nibbling up the natural environment and fusing Rowhedge to Old Heath.

Secondly, I have concerns about the infrastructure in Rowhedge - where will the children living on this development go to school? St Lawrence School in Rowhedge has little space available and no space it expand on it's site. Can the doctors surgery in Rowhedge absorb another 60 families? will there be sufficient space for all the cars the new residents will have? There is already a dearth of parking in the village, particularly near the waterside - we cannot cope with more cars.

Finally, I feel that the character and village feel in Rowhedge is in danger of being eroded. We are already seeing extensive housing development at the Rowhedge Wharf site - it seems unfair and unreasonable to expose the village to yet more development, particularly on a green site. We moved here because we wanted to live in a village community - we wanted open space and countryside.
