Representation 1468 on Preferred Options Local Plan by MR David Gibbons

Support / Object: OBJECT
Document Link: Preferred Options Local Plan - Sustainable Settlements, Mersea Island, SS17a: Mersea Housing and Employment
Representation: I strongly object to the development proposals
principally on the grounds that present housing levels already exceed the planned increase and no consideration or thought given to ongoing infill construction and large visitor numbers.
Mersea Island is Colchester's seaside recreational attraction and the available services and infrastructure cannot support a resident population increase of 11%.

Original submission

The planned level of sustainable new homes has already been exceeded. There is no further adequate services or infrastructure to support 350 more equating to 1000 residents and 500 cars. Also no allowance for continuing infill developments, caravan sites and large visitor numbers. The road standards and parking facilities are totally insufficient now. There is only one approach road to the Island subject to regular tidal flooding causing severe delays. There is very little local employment and with a limited bus service, car use would be necessary
contra to planned objectives. No consideration given
to Bradwell nuclear site and the problems of possible emergency evacuation.
