This proposal for about 350 houses leads to a disproportionate and inappropriate increase in the population on Mersea Island.
Infrastructure on the Island is already stretched.
The significant increase in the Island population will change the nature of Island life.
Traffic on the Island is increasing already and parking in the village is becoming a problem. In particular the traffic on Dawes Lane has increased considerably over the last few years and the road and is not wide enough. Even two cars passing each other pushes one or other nearly into the verge and this becomes even more hazardous if one of the vehicles is a lorry or van. The junction of Dawes Lane and East Road is becoming congested with parked cars.
The hold ups when the tide covers the Strood are becoming longer and longer as the traffic volumes are already increasing. Increasing the population as a result of a further 350 houses will make this even more of a problem. The increased population will be more likely working off the Island not on it.
How will the Island be evacuated if ever the need arose? Bradwell?
