West Mersea Town Council (WMTC) consulted the island community on the 1st September 2016 with approx. 500 residents turning up. This represents approx. 8% of the island population and 10% of the voting population. The response to CBC plan for 350 dwellings was an overwhelming NO from at least 95% of the attendance.
* WMTC holds the view that the proposed development areas in the plan could only be developed if all of the following criterion is reviewed and considered:
o The safety of the island community and emergency services
o Caravan parks and house boats must be considered in population numbers
o Infrastructure including the proposed access to the new sites and public transport.
o Health Services
o Improvements to the local educational system inc. school and play groups.
o Possible new Bradwell power station
o The Strood.
o Sustainability of the community
* Colchester MUST take this comment to REPRESENT the vast majority of the island which is approx. 7800 people excluding caravans. It must not be considered as a single comment.
