Could Colchester Council begin its consideration of this proposal by noting that there is no present infrastucture on Mersea that can cope with this number of new inhabitants, houses, and cars? The primary school is jam full; the doctors' surgery also; there is often no room in the car parks; the Strood causeway to the mainland is increasingly underwater as sea levels rise and the land sinks. How does the Council plan to evacuate the residents of Mersea Island if there is a disastrous fault at Bradwell Power Station where two new untested Chinese reactors may be built? Where is the local plan the local "Town" Council is meant to have produced by now? There would appear to be a failure of local government to deal intelligently with all the factors that face this community.
