I object to the idea that West Mersea can cope with 350 extra dwellings and the extra people that this would bring to west mersea.
There is only one road on and off mersea and at high tides this already creates an enormous back log back up to abberton, and also at times when essential road works are being made on the causeway it has taken over two hours to be able to proceed on my journey. We not only have flooding issues to consider and there only being one road to evacuate but if an emergency evacuation due to Bradwell Nuclear Station were to take place the sheer volume of people trying to evacuate would have severe consequences. The car parks in the town are unable to cope in high holiday season without the additonal building. The tourists that come to mersea are a great asset to the island but making the island over crowded would i believe stop tourists and daytrippers coming to mersea. Our doctors surgery cannot cope as they have recently advised people from neighbouring villages that they are unable to accommodate them anymore. The bus service is already extremely overcrowded in the morning rush hour and at rush hour in the afternoon and if a bus is cancelled (which happens frequently)due to the tide this would be near on impossible to even get on the bus.
