Like may people I retired to Mersea for a quiet life
Since losing the use of my car I now rely on a mobility scooter and this has made me realise just how busy the local roads have become.
Modern housing estates with full size roads and paths can probably cope with more houses, this is not the case at Mersea where the paths are much narrower and may of the junctions are already dangerous with larger vehicles mounting the pavement on tight turns.
Adding yet another 350 homes, 1000 people and their oversized cars will make this much worse and spoil Mersea for everyone.
It is not only the roads. All other services are already over-stretched with people queuing outside the only doctor every morning for limited appointments.
I do wonder if the people considering more homes here know just how many people are here already We hear tails of whole families living virtually permanently on the caravan sites. This and the many summer visitors clearly adds much pressure to limited services.
350 more homes will take us one more step to becoming just another overcrowded community and that will takeaway the character that we so enjoy.
