Representation: Mersea is a delicately balanced community with a special character that will be lost forever by over development. No to 350 more homes.

Original submission

I object to the proposal to allow 350 more homes to be built at west Mersea
The existing infrastructure is already over stretched, the policy says that the developer of new home will be required to upgrade the water, sewage and provide SuDS etc; but non of this will increase the capacity of the roads and narrow footpaths elsewhere on Mersea
10000 more people with their cars will make the roads in-bearable. New housing on properly designed estates with roads and pavements adequate for the safe use of everyone is the way housing should be provided. Simply adding more and more houses to sensitive areas spoils the way of life of the people already there.
There is only one road on & off the island and the flow of traffic at peak times is already too much.
The local community is happy to welcome many thousands of visitors during the holiday season and when they all go home we breath a sigh of relief and revert to the quiet slightly slower way of life that attracted many of us to Mersea in the first place.
350 more homes 1000 more people and cars will take us one more step towards just another too busy place.
Policies for this and that are all very well; but they rearly work out as expected. We have families living almost full time in the caravan sites putting extra stress on the facilities that can nearly come with the legitimate population.
Please help us to preserve this special place for future generations to enjoy; build 350 homes elsewhere.
